Uruguayan Visitors In Joey’s!
As followers of this website will know Joey’s is an extremely busy little school and today was no exception. . . We were delighted to entertain and interact with almost one hundred Uruguayans from another C.B.S in their capital Montevideo. . . It is fair to say that we all had a great time. . .
Early in the morning we all gathered in the hall to display some of our talents for the visitors. Miss Stewart was a very capable M.C, and Miss O Brien’s class teamed up with Miss Quinlan’s to set the tone with a combination of top class choreography and singing.
The visiting Uruguayan students watched, we continued to perform our cultural pieces, a blend of old and new, with Mr. Gillespie’s class to the fore!
As we are approaching Seachtain na Gaeilge, lots of our pieces were in our own native tongue agus tá moladh ar leith tuillte ag Fionn Baker mar gheall ar a chuid cumais agus é ag léamh dán de chuid An Phiarsaigh, “Mise Éire” . Steven Doran also explained the background and history that the slow air Boolavouge celebrates before his class performed some top class tin-whistling!
As things began to reach fever pitch, Mr. McDonald’s whipped the hall in a whirling frenzy with an energetic take on Avici, all as Gaeilge. Maith sibh lads!
After appreciating our talents our visitors from Montevideo were only too happy to enthrall us with some flamenco dancing of their own! This surely was a first for our little school hall . . .
And that was it! A great day was had by all. . . Although the Uruguayans somehow managed to beat the Joey’s team in an exhibition match in the circle Mr. McDonald has vowed revenge for next year in the away leg!! Viva Joey’s!!!
