Pumpkins, squirrels and bees: Room 8 in Botanic Gardens
Thursday was a very exciting day for the boys in 3rd/4th class from room 8. With the fantastic weather still lingering, the brilliant boys of Room 8 made their way to The National Botanic Gardens.
With Halloween fast approaching, The National Botanic Gardens, located in Glasnevin, held a fantastic Halloween themed competition. Children were asked to design imaginative and creative designs for pumpkins. All entries are now on display in The Teak House for all to see.
After exploring parts of the gardens, the boys had the opportunity to look at the display of pumpkins. The unique designs caught all the Joeys boys’ attention and interest. Some of the favourites included minion, spider-man, pokemon and mad-hatter inspired pumpkins.
There was also a harvest display comprising of a stunning array of pumpkins, gourds, giant Gortahork cabbages, and a variety of unusual seasonal fruits and vegetables. All of which were produced in the gardens.
With time to spare we ventured through the gardens. Highlights included The Viking House, the hawthorn tree, the fountain, the beehive and the enlarged Chimes!! Let me not forget, the excitement every time we spotted a squirrel (10+ times). Some boys said it was the first they had ever seen one!
We ended our wonderful tour in the green houses with plants so large, the boys thought they were on the set of Jurrasic Park!
Make sure to look through the photos!!!
