Hurlers back on track!
The Joey’s hurling team got their season back on track after a hard fought win on Tuesday of this week. A well coached outfit from Holy Spirit BNS in Ballymun provided the opposition in the the chase for points to come out of the group. A huge performance was needed after the disappointing loss last week in Swords. And what a performance we got! With no substitutes and a sweltering hot day in Fairview Park, the home team tore into the opposition from the word go. An early goal from Louis Ralph helped to settle the nerves, followed quickly by a nice point by Reece Lowry at Centre forward. This kicked Holy spirit into life and they began move up the field with purpose. However with forwards like Cian Dawson and Declan Kelly working like defenders, we need not have worried. Add into this a full back line in the form of their lives, putting their bodies where no man would put his hurl, and the opposition were going to find scores very hard to come by. When Luke Cahill stole in for a goal at the other end the writing was on the wall for Holy Spirit. Try as they could, they couldn’t get past Eddie Gavin on goal, who made 5 great saves in a row at one stage.
Joey’s went in at the break with a comfortable lead and with some inspirational words at half time they went roaring back out in the second half. Another goal by Jack Dillon from a free sealed the deal, followed by a brace of points by the same player and a Sean Kelly point from his own half of the field sent the large crowd wild (Mr. McDonald’s 4th and 5th class). The opposition only got in for their only point of the game in the final seconds but it was too little too late. Joey’s now look forward to playing their local rivals, O’Connells, in the coming weeks.
Final Score: Joey’s 3-4 Holy Spirit 0-1
Man of the match: Antho Grey
