One Book One Community Inter School Quiz

Well done to the four boys from 6th class who represented Joeys in the One Book One Community Inter School Quiz. The quiz took place in the Edmund Rice house and was hosted by O’Connell’s School. The quiz involved Joeys and 10 other local primary schools. Each school was represented by a team of four. All the questions were based on the novel The Blue Horse by Marita Conlon McKenna. The four boys who represented this school Michael, Connor, David and Domenico did the school proud. We were joint second place with O’Connell’s. Congratulations to St Laurence O’Toole’s CBS who came first. It was very close at the end but as ever there can only be one winner.

Again, well done to our team for coming joint second. Pictures to follow!

6th Class & Room 9A Trip to Bull Island

The boys from 6th class and Room 9A went on a visit to Bull Island recently.  Pat who has been working on the island for 28 years showed the boys  a slide show and  talked about biodiversity, the creatures and plant life in the area. Afterwards the boys got to have a close look at some of these creatures on display and took in some close up views through the binoculars in the visitor centre.  Everyone was amazed how lucky we are to have such a unique and varied environment on our doorstep.

Watch out as we plan to start our wormery in the next few weeks.

Joeys on Tour

The Joeys boys are off again! On Thursday, as part of Green School Flag for Biodiversity, the whole school will be taking a walk down the seafront to have a close look at biodiversity in our local community. In case you were wondering biodiversity is a term used to describe all the living things on earth, from the little flowers to the birds to the animals and even us! So keep an eye out on Thursday at around eleven – you may spot some of our boys getting close to nature.
