Press conference centre in the Aviva Stadium, stars such as Lionel Messi sat in these very seats. The boys watched a video and listened to one of our boxing hosts explain the history of the old stadium (Landsdown Road) and how it came to become the Aviva.

The boys got to see some rare memorabilia belonging to some sporting legends such as Pele! Amazing collection!

Olympic Gold Medal Champion Michael Carruth gave the boys a tour of the Irish home dressing rooms. It was a thrilling experience to sit in the dressing rooms just days before the Irish National soccer team were due to play Holland in an international soccer match.

The boys entered the internal warm up area that sporting  and music stars like ACDC and Madonna use before going on to the pitch or on stage.

As part of the tour the boys got to sit in the Irish soccer teams home bench, which would have been home to many Irish sporting stars over the past number of years!To finish off the tour the boys got to spar in one of the training areas on the upper levels with some of their boxing heroes, whom have been very kind and helpful to the Joeys boys! Go raibh míle maith agaibh go léir!

It’s that time of year again when we do our annual collection for the Aoibhneas Women’s Centre in Coolock.

Food and Clothes and Toy Collection

Christmas is a happy time for most people but unfortunately not for everyone especially for women and children who need to make use of sheltered accommodation.  This will be the tenth year to run this collection and every year you have been extremely generous.  Thank You.

We realise that things have become tough for everyone but if you can, we are asking you to donate food such as pasta, rice, biscuits, packets of soup, canned food to the women’s refuge.

Other items that would be welcomed would be new children’s clothes and new toys.

There will be boxes inside the school underneath the Christmas Tree if you wish to send something in.

Christmas Cards

The 6^th class boys were and still are doing their bit the past few weeks making recycled Christmas cards.  These cards will be on sale from myself on Monday, Wednesday and Friday for the next couple of weeks.

The cards will cost 30c each.

All money raised will go to the women’s refuge.

A BIG THANK YOU to all the 6^th class boys and the Secondary School Shopkeepers for all their hard work .

It was a very busy couple of weeks in Joeys. We had the First Holy Communion on Saturday 23rd May . The boys had a wonderful day and looked great in their suits.

We heard some sad news that our Principal, Ms. Fitzpatrick is resigning from her job. We will miss her and wish her well in the future.

SPORTS

It has being a great year for our hurlers.  They reached the final in Croke Park. The team is a young side, full of potential.The school will go to support them in the finals this Monday 8th June. Come on Joeys!!

The footballers sadly lost their match 5 -0.

Our school sent a team of athletes to the recent Athletics Championships in Santry. Well done to Adam Rowe who came third in the hurdles and earned himself a bronze medal. Hard luck to all the other boys who sadly missed out.
